Meet Spot, your little screen mate

Spot is the right-hand dot of the Clabrate menu-bar mark. Let him out and he wanders your Mac screen for a while, then leaps back up and becomes the logo again.

Who he is

The dot that gets out.

Look at the Clabrate menu-bar mark: • | •. The right-hand dot is Spot. Turn him on and now and then he drops out of the menu bar, splashes into ink and goes for a wander across your screen.

He is off by default. To let him out, open Settings → Companion and turn on Let Spot out to roam. That switch means he may visit, not that he is always out.

What he does on your Mac

He roams, then he goes home.

  • He roams and hops across your screen and squeezes through the gaps between windows.
  • When Clabrate needs to show you where something is, he pops out to point at it, then heads straight home.
  • He keeps to himself while you dictate or talk to Clabrate, and he stays in while your screen is locked or asleep.

Some habits he has to find first. Once you own Perch, Peek-a-boo or Catnap he may perch, peek out or take a nap during a visit. He chooses those himself, and most visits have none.

What he can see

Where your windows are, not what is in them.

Spot needs to know where your windows are, so he can perch on their edges and squeeze through the gaps between them. That means their positions and sizes only, never their contents.

He does not read your screen, and nothing about your windows leaves your Mac.

The Collection and Inkwells

Things he finds along the way.

As you dictate, Spot turns up Inkwells: small sealed pots of ink you open when you feel like it. Each holds one thing for your Collection: a colour for Spot, a look for his eyes, a finish, a trick or, rarely, a whole skin.

Inkwells are earned, not bought. Everything in them is cosmetic, and nothing you find or miss changes how Clabrate works.

Coming to Android

He is packing.

Spot is on his way to Android. There is nothing to install there yet.
